Met films en series als “The Hunger Games”, “Squid Game”, “Battle Royale”, “The Running Man”, “Predator” en “The Game of Death” wordt het duidelijk dat survivalgame één van de meest populaire filmgenres blijft. Dit genre begon allemaal met de spectaculaire film “The Most Dangerous Game.”
In 1932, terwijl de animatie shots van King Kong nauwgezet in elkaar werden gezet, maakten dezelfde cast en crew tijdens de nachtelijke uurtjes een andere film op de uitgestorven jungle sets. Het resultaat was de “The Most Dangerous Game” en het werd onmiddellijk een hit en vormde het begin van een heel nieuw filmgenre.
Max Steiner
Omdat de partituur van de componist die als eerst was gekozen voor de muziek van de film werd afgewezen had componist Max Steiner Steiner (bekend van King Kong, Casablanca, Gone With The Wind) slechts twee weken om een geheel nieuwe soundtrack te schrijven en op te nemen. Dit is zelfs voor de filmindustrie extreem kort.
Max Steiner ging aan de slag en het lukte hem om een score vol adrenaline en romantiek te componeren die ongeveer de helft van de film beslaat binnen die twee weken. Gedurende 90 jaar is de film zo gebleven. Tot nu…
The Most Extraordinary Game
In deze zeer ambitieuze productie bundelt het Amsterdam Brass Quintet (ABQ) de krachten samen met het James Whale Orchestra (JWO).
Componist Oliver Parr heeft de originele partituur van Max Steiner uit 1932 een reconstructie gemaakt op basis van de originele potloodschetsen. Daarnaast heeft hij nieuwe muziek gemaakt in de stijl van de Gouden Eeuw van Hollywood om de hele film te vullen.
Met behulp van de muziekproductie-expertise van het James Whale Orchestra is de originele muziek zorgvuldig uit de film verwijderd. Door het ABQ te combineren met multitracking en virtuele instrumenten, kan de volledige symfonische versie worden uitgevoerd op het podium in elk zaal met beamer, scherm en geluidsinstallatie.

With movies and series like “The Hunger Games”, “Squid Game”, “Battle Royale”, “The Running Man”, “Predator” and “The Game of Death” it is clear that survival games remain one of the most popular film genres. This genre all started with the spectacular film “The Most Dangerous Game.”
In 1932, while the animation shots of King Kong were being meticulously put together, the same cast and crew were making another film during the night hours on the deserted jungle sets. The result was “The Most Dangerous Game”. It became an instant hit and was the start of a whole new film genre.
Max Steiner
Because the score of the composer who was first chosen for the music of the film was rejected, composer Max Steiner Steiner (known for King Kong, Casablanca, Gone With The Wind) had only two weeks to write and record a completely new soundtrack. This is extremely short even for the film industry.
Max Steiner got to work and managed to compose a score full of adrenaline and romance that covers about half of the film within those two weeks. For 90 years, the film has remained like that. Until now…
The Most Extraordinary Game
In this very ambitious production, the Amsterdam Brass Quintet (ABQ) joins forces with the James Whale Orchestra (JWO).
Composer Oliver Parr has reconstructed Max Steiner's original score from 1932 based on the original pencil sketches. In addition, he has created new music in the style of the Golden Age of Hollywood to fill the entire film.
With the help of the music production expertise of the James Whale Orchestra, the original music has been carefully removed from the film. By combining the ABQ with multitracking and virtual instruments, the complete symphonic version can be performed on stage in any room with a projector, screen and sound system.
